At first, this acrylic painting titled Catscape appears to depict a rocky landscape with many colors. However, if you look for it, you may see the hidden figure of a cat stretching over most of the canvas.
This piece is ultimately about the human impact on the environment. The cat, which represents the landscape, is crumbling. However, within the belly of the cat lies a cave with a single flower, illuminated by a crack above. This flower is meant to show that there is still hope that things will get better on Earth.
I have highlighted the hidden cat in a sketch below. You may also notice that the sun looks like a ball of yarn, that the cat's paw is stretching towards, which gives a nod to its existence.
This painting is second in a series of four paintings that I created for my IB art class in high school.
